Hello,everyone! I’m weather forecaster yoshi.
Sudden question, are you interested in the weather?
Many of you must be interested about the weather, whether it’s raining, snowing, or if a typhoon is coming, especially about tomorrow’s weather.
In Japan, there is a national qualification called a weather forecaster that predicts the weather.
The feature of this qualification is that it allows you to predict the weather by Meteorological Agency.
If you pass this exam, you will be able to forecast the weather in Japan.
And surprisingly, there are no special qualifications required, in addition to gender, age, and nationality, anyone from babies to the elderly around the world can take the exam.
Anyone from the USA, France, Brazil, and all over the world can take the exam.

About Weather Forecasters
The weather forecaster qualification was introduced in Japan in 1993.
Originally, only the Japan Meteorological Agency was allowed to forecast the weather, but with the easing of regulations, technicians known as “weather forecasters” became able to predict various weather phenomena.
If anyone could freely forecast the weather and publicly announce it, there could be confusion in society.
Therefore, it is structured in such a way that there are no issues as long as the Japan Meteorological Agency certifies a person who can appropriately make forecasts through the national qualification exam for “weather forecasters.”
Currently, there are about 12,000 weather forecasters in Japan.
There are zero foreign weather forecasters.
As far as I know, there are none.
I think that the difficulty of the Japanese language exam is a contributing factor.

National Examination for Certified Weather Forecasters
National Examination for Certified Weather Forecasters is divided into three main subjects.
The first is the general exam, which mainly consists of calculations and legal questions.
The second is the specialized exam, which requires specialized knowledge of meteorological phenomena.
And the third is the practical exam, where you interpret phenomena while looking at weather maps.
The exam duration is 60 minutes for both the general and specialized exams.
The practical exam consists of two parts, each lasting 75 minutes.
Additionally, while the general and specialized exams are multiple-choice format, the practical exam is a written test.
Both exams are conducted in Japanese, so if you cannot read Japanese, you cannot even solve the problems.
Therefore, acquiring Japanese language skills is the first hurdle.
Even if you can read, knowledge of subjects such as physics and mathematics is necessary.
If you do not understand the concepts, it is difficult to arrive at the answers.
If anyone is interested in seeing the problems, I have uploaded past questions here, so please check them out.
The passing rate is about 5%
The weather forecaster exam is said to be a difficult exam.
About 4,000 people take the exam each time, and only about 200 can pass.
The passing rate is about 5%.
Since it is an exam written in Japanese, and only this number of Japanese people can pass, the difficulty level will surely increase for those from overseas.
However, if you can pass the weather forecaster exam in Japan, there is no doubt that you will obtain a unique title.
You would surely be the first in Japan, and you’d likely be in high demand by the media.
After all, at least I have never seen it, and no one has passed until now.
Would you like to become the first foreign weather forecaster?
